Globalization is an active process that is transforming the world economic system. Knowledge and information take on increasing importance with the emergence of a new development model specially in the highly industrialized countries. Thus, the era of globalization has tremendous implications for knowledge, education and learning.

At the economic level, globalization is affecting employment and Schools will need to reconsider their mission in light of changing job markets; new skills and the flexibility to adapt to changing job demands and, for that matter, changing jobs over a lifetime; and dealing with an increasingly competitive international labor pool. The increasing commercialization of the school environment has become remarkably bold and explicit in this decade.

As Educators our ability to educate and prepare the world’s future leaders in politics, business, and education along with our determination to set positive examples for the value of democracy, civility, and human rights can shape the future of the world. However, there were many barriers to preparing students adequately for a global economy and society. The most significant barriers include limited resources, language barriers, and lack of mobility of students.

New technologies provide ways to overcome the traditional barriers to global education and language learning. The 21st century ushered in an era with the highest level of global interconnectedness in human history. Text, voice, and images are transferred with a click on a cellular phone or a computer. Students sign up for online classes that are taught by educators who are nowhere near where the students live.
